one|chapter 1:
about
first off, an introduction: my name is reed maxfield wiedower. my resume is in the next section and provides a cut-and-dry summary of my work experience. this site has three purposes: one, to allow people to learn more information about me; two, to allow me to keep my coding skills up to snuff; three, to allow me to keep my writing skills limber. the order is fairly important. this site is not an attempt to produce the great american novel, or to create the next killer app, or even to produce something artistic. think of it as a sandbox with a donation plaque. the plaque tells you who am i and why i donated the sandbox, and the box itself allows me the space to create. if you see a castle one day, or a monster the next, you're merely seeing what's inside the sandbox. frequently, what's inside may reflect other people's desires and creativity rather than my own. only the first section (the plaque!) should be construed as somewhat representative of me. authorial intent is fruitless to search for, of course.
basically, the site is a series of narratives, with the exception of the first section (the one you're reading the first chapter of right now!) which is mainly an informative section about y.t.; each narrative has navigation to allow you to move from chapter to chapter. should you wish to help the author (me!) out with any of the stories, just use the comments link to send me a comment. i'll try to incorporate your comments onto the site itself in a left comment, if possible. lately, in an effort to polish up some of the works, i've walled off the other sections. that wall will eventually come down, rest assured.
there really isn't that much more to the site. i'll try to keep editing works on a daily basis, so if you even catch some spelling errors, feel free to send them to me. (i'm not going to put spelling errors in the comments fields...the more for over-arching storyline suggestions or ways to make changes to the feel of a passage)
the background is from a nasa space picture that was consolidated...i have another one that (curiously) focuses right on pakistan/afghanistan, but i haven't put it on the site yet. the link to all of them is right here which reminds me: i'm not going to explore the use of hyperlinking throughout my narratives. this isn't a post-modern exploration of the web as new artform. instead, i'm just looking to write some stories and have public feedback on them. all works, are of course, copyright 2002, reed maxfield wiedower. that goes without saying, right? at some point i'll gpl these guys up, but that can occur a little later.
what is the validation tab for? well, i happen to think that all my sites should be viewable in a variety of different methods, whether through lynx, ie or mozilla. to that end, coding w3c compliant xhtml is a big goal of mine. if any page doesn't validate properly, please send me a note and i'll try to correct it post haste. for the record, this site is best viewed in a fully css2 compliant browser...mozilla's products are the best of the best that i've found out there...so give them a shot!
